This paper explains the method of how it is possible to estimate the depth of the lymph nodes using a 99mTc labelled with probes for sentinel lymph node.
The estimation method is based on a calculation algorithm included, as routine independent, on system NUCLEOPROBE MR200 WIRELESS, which captures data in machine and compares them with the transmission curves in depth laboratory-acquired sampled at different depth and different distances.
Sampling data lab: 5mm with point sources. The patient acquisition was performed by two measure, one on axillary skin surface and second with pressure on the skin of a 1 centimeter in depth and the two measures are compared. The display will automatically show the depth detected.
The first Algorithm Version has been set the first deep estimation value with a tolerance of 5 mm.
In second time the depth of lymph node is measured by centimeter needle in Operating Room during the quadrantectomy and sentinel lymph node excision.
It has been developed a form in order to trace the experimental data.
It has been made a test of n. 14 patients.
In all patients (14), the measurement made with the probe and the measured to the surgical bed were comparable , after a small workout operator in performing the measurements.
This method, simple and noninvasive, performed in a short time both in Nuclear Medicine diagnostic and in Operating Room, allows you to determine the depth of the sentinel lymph node to remove, providing useful information to the Surgeon and Anesthetist to the time and methodology of surgery.
